Project “COM.I.C.S. – COMmunication Involves Comic Stories” is a youth exchange which will be held in Palermo from 21th to 29th of March 2018. The project will bring together participants from Italy, Slovakia, Spain and Latvia in order to discuss Visual art and Illustration.

Through non-formal activities, participants will have the chance to compare experiences and ideas, also with concretes examples, how is possible to implement social interventions using non formal education and the interconnection between illustration and communication. At the end of the project, with non formal and partecipatory methods, participants will create a comic book that will collect all the illustration of stories that participants will realise during activities.

Project Activities

This Erasmus+ project consist of two acticities: Advanced Planning Visit (APV) and  Youth Exchange. Advanced Planned Visit will be held in Palermo from 19th to 22th of February (19th and 22th are travel days). It would be useful if the participant of the A.P.V. will be the youth leader of the group, in order to better organize the activities of the mobility.

We need 1 participant for APV (group leader).

Dates of the activities: 

  1. APV (Advance Planning Visit): 20th February – 21th February 2018 (19th and 22th travel days)
  2.  Youth Exchange: 22th March – 28th March 2018 (21th and 29th travel days)

Participant Profile

There will be 7 participants per country for the youth exchange (6 participants and 1 group leader). Participants are supposed to be young people interested in discovering various spheres of visual art and illustration. The desired age of the participants is 18 – 25 years old.

Participant who want’s to attend the all two activities will be preferred.  

Participant’s prerequisites:

  • Be present and have an active participation on all sessions
  • Show initiative and interest in the topic and follow up activities
  • Be over 18 years old


The project will take a place in Palermo, Italy. Palermo is Sicily’s cultural, economic and tourism capital. It is a city rich in history, culture, art, music and food. Palermo is the main Sicilian industrial and commercial center: the main industrial sectors include tourism, services, commerce and agriculture. Palermo was one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean and is now among the top tourist destinations in both Italy and Europe. It is the main seat of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.


Accommodation and Food

Accommodation and food will be covered by the host organization and only during the youth exchange days. The venue is Mamamia Hostel & Guesthouse in Palermo. They will have also vegetarians.



The travel cost will be reimbursed up to 275 euro for round trip.

Palermo is connected via shuttle bus and shared taxi with the Falcone-Borsellino (Punta Raisi) airport. Bus station is next to airport, there’s only one bus company called “Prestia e Comandé” (http://www.prestiaecomande.it/). It runs every half an hour. Participants have to get off the bus at last stop, Stazione Centrale-Piazza Giulio Cesare (Central Station). Exact meeting point will be communicate to youth leader with direct message. Palermo Airport has daily connections with Milan, Rome, Turin, Bologna, Treviso, Naples, Bergamo; if you don’t find a direct flight a good idea could be to arrive in one of these cities and book another flight to Palermo (please pay attention to the fact that Rome and Milan have two different,and very far each other, airports, if you think to have a stop over in these cities pay attention on which airport you’ll arrive/leave).

Reimbursement is available ONLY on travel days or one day before/after the youth exchange days. You must keep all the bills, boarding passes and all kinds of tickets with you because host organization needs them to reimburse your travel cost.

General Information

Health and travel insurance: Palermo has an average temperature between 15 and 25 degrees. Please check accuweather.com for more updated information about the weather.

What to bring: slippers or sneakers for indoor and comfortable shoes for outdoor activities.

Currency: the official currency EURO.

What to bring: – Printed copies of ID card or passport and tickets/invoices

Cultural nights: each country is expected to prepare a program to present their culture, to bring some typical local drinks and foods and prepare a cultural program like presentation of local tradition, music, dance etc. Creative methods for presentation will be used, so no power point/youtube videos will be accepted.

Meals: the host will provide you with three meals/day. The meals will take into account all the participants dietary aspects such as allergies, intolerance and preferences. They will also have vegetarian.
